Did you know that 165 million cups of tea are drunk every day in the UK? And did you know that only 1% of those are made using fairtrade tea?
Fairtrade Fortnight has its emphasis on tea this year and the Fairtrade Foundation is encouraging tea-drinkers (and supporters) to pester the large tea companies into using more fairtrade tea. Go to their website to find out how you can do your bit!
We're doing our bit at Linden: Dan and James have been taking assemblies and lessons in local schools all about fairtrade and children from Whitestone School are visiting Red Cafe for a fairtrade tea party with cake, brownies and cookies all made, as far as possible, from locally sourced and fairtrade ingredients.
Then on Sunday, 7th March, there's an awareness-raising walk, starting at 11 am from the Oxfam shop in Castle Street, Swansea, along the sea front to Red Cafe, where lunch will be available.
Finally, a couple more fantastic fairtrade facts:
There are over 4,500 different products available including rubber gloves, toilet rolls, and shopping bags.
If someone says to you, 'I don't like fairtrade coffee,' ask if they've tried all of the 400 different varieties available!
